Ethereal Singer Makes House Track, Loves Calvin Harris on Astini News

Florence Welch, of Florence and the Machine, has been hailed for her "bold, brassy voice" and "bombastic" music, but could she ditch the harps and ethereal dresses for synths and dubstep? In a recent interview with Digital Spy, the British singer revealed that she has a new house music side project -- with a very appropriate name.

"We actually have a dance outfit side project called Side Project," she said. "We made this weird house track that sounded quite churchy -- to be confirmed! As yet it has never seen the light of day."

Welche's music has long been remixed by house producers, most notably by Mark Knight. His rework of "You've Got the Love" became a staple at nearly every dance music festival. (Skip past the intro to the 2:00 mark; article continues below video.)

Perhaps her adoration for Scottish DJ and house producer, Calvin Harris, who recently remixed her latest single "Spectrum." Welch called Harris' work the perfect "blend of euphoric and melancholic."

"I'm such a huge fan of his," she said. "What I enjoy about Calvin's songs is that he has that blend of euphoric and melancholic which as an artist he has managed to perfect. It's that mix of catchy and sad -- that feeling of complete joy but something tugging at your insides. That's what makes a great pop song and I really think he's coined that." (Listen to Harris' remix below; article continues after video.)

It looks like future collaborations between the singer and the producer -- who previously worked with Rihanna on her No. 1 song, "We Found Love" -- are imminent. However, could Welch also have her sights set on a hip-hop collaboration? She recently spent an evening with Jay-Z, his wife Beyoncé and a few close friends to celebrate Beyoncé's sister Solange's birthday, reports The Belfast Telegraph.
