Alleged gunman charged in shooting death of wheel-chair bound victim on Astini News

Harris County Sheriff's deputies have one man in custody in connection with a daytime shooting on June 22 in the 400 block of Cypress Ave. in Crosby.

Derrick Williams, 25, of Crosby, turned himself in on Monday, June 26. He is currently in the Harris County Jail charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to court records filed in the 228th District Court, a 35-year-old female victim was sitting in front of her garage when a gray car pulled up on the street.

"[She] stated she saw [Williams] pull up to a black male in a wheelchair, while the man was in the street, and then saw [Williams] shoot the male in the wheelchair," investigators say in a probable cause statement. "[She] said the defendant sped off in the gray car and the man in the wheelchair fell into the roadway. At that point she realized she had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg."

The female victim reportedly identified the shooter as Williams, a man she knew at least by sight and name.

Investigators say the female victim is expected to recover. The male victim, identified as Corey Wayne Comeaux, 30, of Beaumont, through fingerprints provided by the state of Louisiana, died at the hospital from a gunshot wound to the head.

Williams is being held in Harris County Jail on bonds totaling $60,000. The aggravated assault charge for Comeaux may be upgraded to murder.

HCSO officials say the motive for the shooting is unknown.
