Nala Films, which backed Will Ferrell's Spanish-language spoof "Casa de mi padre," has shuttered its development and production arm, and prexy-COO Darlene Caamano has ankled. "We will continue to equity finance films and invest in technology," said Nala chairman-CEO Emilio Diez Barroso, noting that the production and development overhead was a burden on the whole operation. "We're best at empowering other films with equity financing," he said. "Darlene is incredibly talented and resourceful, and I'm confident she will find better opportunities."Caamano was unavailable for comment.Nala recently backed Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring," putting up a fair share of the pic's estimated $20 million budget not covered by international pre-sales. Emma Watson and Kirsten Dunst star in the pic, inspired by real events, about celeb-obsessed teens who track stars on the Internet to rob their homes.Nala also backed Deepak Chopra docu "Decoding Deepak," which was penned and directed by Chopra's son Gotham Chopra.Nala's credits include "Cere-mony," starring Uma Thurman, and supernatural thriller "Shelter," toplined by Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The closure of Nala's production arm comes after the relative B.O. success of its first Spanish-language pic, "Casa de mi padre," released by Pantelion, which has grossed some $6 million in the U.S.
