USC, Utah and Oregon State each got word from top junior college recruits on the first official day of the JC mid-year transfer letter of intent period.

The Trojans got word from two who could step in for starters headed to the NFL: safety Gerald Bowman of Pierce College and defensive end Morgan Breslin. Bowman picked USC over Oklahoma and Miami and will enroll this spring. Breslin flipped from a commitment to UCLA to the Trojans. Breslin could replace Nick Perry and Bowman T.J. McDonald, if McDonald joins Perry in the NFL draft.&

Here's the report on Bowman:&

Originally from Philadelphia, Bowman spent a year at North Carolina Tech before following teammates to Pierce. After a stellar first year there, USC offered a scholarship and had been chasing him in a big way. Bowman eventually had interest in Oklahoma, and took an official visit there in early November, but an official visit to USC in late December -- coupled with Ed Orgeron's constant presence -- was enough for the Trojans to land one of the top junior college recruits in the country.

And Breslin:

Breslin has racked up 28 sacks in the last two seasons and projects as a weakside defensive end for the Trojans. He'll have three seasons to play and is expected to see action immediately next fall.

Meanwhile, running back Kelvin York (Fullerton JC, Calif.) has signed with Utah. A former USC commitment, he narrowed his choices to the Utes and Washington before deciding to go with Utah.

York tore his meniscus during a November contest and missed the last part of the season. In early December, York said he talked with USC and when he wasn't guaranteed that a scholarship would still be available to him, he decided to go in a different direction. That new direction is to Utah, and he'll have three years to play two for the Utes.

Finally, Oregon State has signed linebacker Cade Cowdin of the College of the Desert in California. He played linebacker and fullback while at St. George High School in Utah. He was an all-state selection by the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune, and honorable mention all-region following his senior year in 2009.
